From Excel exports to living reports

It happens in the last week of every month. Someone exports from the finance system, someone pastes the export into the master spreadsheet, formulas get dragged down, charts are copied into slides, and the pack goes out, often late and occasionally with last month's tab still selected. Everyone involved knows it is fragile. It survives because it works just well enough.

The fix is not a faster paste; it is removing the export step. Connect the source once, and define the calculations as shared metrics instead of dragged formulas, so the logic lives somewhere versioned and shared.

In DataSquares, dashboards and reports on a database or warehouse query it live, so there is nothing to refresh by hand. Data pulled from a REST API or Google Sheets refreshes on a schedule, hourly, daily or weekly, and an uploaded file stays a snapshot until someone uploads a new version.

Executives read on planes and boards want a deck, so a link to a dashboard does not replace the pack. Schedule the delivery instead.

In DataSquares, a dashboard can be emailed daily, weekly or monthly as PDF, PowerPoint, Excel or CSV, rendered on the server, and exported pages break between cards rather than through a chart. Reports go further: paginated layouts with group subtotals and grand totals, and data-driven delivery that sends each regional lead a copy filtered to their own region from a single schedule.

The pack now reads from the same definitions as the dashboards, so the numbers in it match what people see in the app. When someone questions a figure in the meeting, you can open the dashboard and drill into it there, instead of promising a follow-up email.
